The Lake

Life is like a lake as calm as glass

At first it may seem empty, still, and void.

Even though assumptions may at first pass,

This one we all should soon avoid!

Underneath the surface of the lake, life

Always is about , and even though at first

It may seem that our lives are ruled by strife,

With happiness and gaudy show the lake bursts!

Anhingas* may loom near the surface,

But look at the fish they chase below!

And bait fish may seem to bore and list,

'Till Largemouth chase them through the shallows!

Now, look at this commotion occuring off the prow

Is life so void and this lake so empty now?

*An Anhinga is a type of cormorant that lives in fresh water lakes. Most cormorants prefer the ocean.

It is also called the Water Chicken.
