The Lake

Imagine a lake

its waters crystal clear

your reflection smiling back at you

Then one day

the sky turns gray and stormy

and the lake becomes dark

Thunder booms

Lightning flashes

The water swirls furiously

and the lake becomes darker and darker

Wind howls

Rain gushes from the sky

and the lake becomes darker and darker

Plants and trees are uprooted

Grass and reeds thrash wildly

and the lake becomes darker and darker

There's no end in sight

to this raging, relentless tempest

The lake is so dark

that you can no longer see your reflection

What is the lake?

It's my mind

Every. Single. Day.
