The Land That Once Was

From the roots of her charcoal hair,

to the bottom of her desert toes,

she stands with both feet planted firmly in the dust

like the ones before her used to do.

On top of the burning mesas,

where a slight breeze kisses her warm shoulders,

she sees the barren land as it once was;

a passionate bearer of hope.
