The Land of the Oppressed

We weren’t always the “land of the free,” and this is why..

First they came for the Natives, committed genocide, and relocated those were left, and I educated myself on those who were robbed of their name and land.

Then they came for the African-Americans who escaped slavery, yet face racial profiling every day of their lives and I advocated for them when they were attacked with discrimination.

Then they came for the Women when they said “all men are created equal,” leaving us in the shadows, and I spoke up becase saying “women are weak” is far from the truth.

Then they came for the Muslims and I fought for their equality because they have a right to wear a hijab, or other clothing for their religion and NOT be labeled ‘terrorists.’

Then they came for me because of the color of my skin, my gender, and my sexuality, but little did they know I’m not standing alone.
