the language of unspoken things

if you call it

reading between the lines

if you refer to it

as a meaningful silence

if you don’t know it’s there

and miss what isn’t said

the dialog found between:

what is said,

what is meant,

what is hidden,

what is difficult,

what is unknown,

and what is desired to say

you will find so many things:

resolution

dissolution

heart’s desire

a soul’s hidden mire

defeat

retreat

wars could end

lovers united for life

imposters exposed

suspicions confirmed

suspicions removed

(unspoken words)

form their own hidden language

foreign and strange to us

it is the attempt
to interpret the unheard

that often leads to even more strained exchanges

so...

we speak in half-meanings

with well-intentioned, carefully chosen words

the unspoken language is

a blessing?

nature’s escape hatch?

the bug in the human blueprint?

in the end, we know what we want to know

we share what we want to share

and just believe or not

relying on ourselves to fill in the blanks

Poetry is an outlet for me, but also a way to try and understand others. Music is poetry accompanied by beautiful sounds.. I have just turned 60 but have been writing poetry for about 20 years as a way of understanding 'stuff' (stuff=feelings, reactions, sorrow, etc). Reading others' words and writing my own brings me joy (insert various reactions here depending on the writing and/or my state of mind :) )
