The Lark

Once sang the lark

Right into dark

Singing of deep desperation

Pausing a moment before taking flight

Trailing her song behind

Chasing shimmering stars

For condolence

She catches the stars

And they welcome her

Jumping in jubilation

She echoes them

Singing of exultation

This time

She does not fly away

Content

With the shimmering starlight

Twice sang the second lark

Bringing back the dark

And awakening the first

The second had the stars

On a pendant around her neck

Reminding the first

The stars were only a dream

She sings of desperation again

Far from the other

But even further from the stars

Which do not seem to shimmer

Now

That she is not with them

She could ask the second

For the stars back

But once the stars have chosen

They have chosen

And the stars always choose the best

And she realizes

It is not the stars

Who have stopped shimmering
