The Last 4 Years
Stop chasing after those people
You're never going to catch them
and if you do they're usually not worth it.
Stop trying to embody your favorite characters
from the movies
they'll always be better on film.
Remember to bring a pencil
our you'll be at the mercy of those people
who'll assume you're just another slacker.
Don't slouch so much, it really
is bad for posture and you're going to
live to regret it in the future.
Not everyone deserves your kindness
Stop considering being a vegetarian
It's just not going to happen
You and I both know it at this point.
You don't have to keep pretending to like that
book series, the really cool pople you'll met will
understand and won't judge you by it.
Relish the good memories, leave all the rest behind,
Is what I'd want to say if I went back in time and met
my fourteen-year-old self.
But it's not what I should tell myself because
life is life and I had to learn those things instead
of being told them. And I know in the
end everything will works it's way out.
All I'd say to myself is to really write down everything as it stings
and shakes and changes my emotions.
Because writing is what makes all those things that are ugly and unkempt
beautiful
and it turns stages of life into just another verse.
