The Last Day

it was meant to be a day of fun

but how could I have fun

when all I could think

was how I was the only one

the only one out of sync

I knew on that day

I'd never go to school with them again

I'd never get to say

"hey, can I borrow a pen"

never be teammates with them

never go to another dance

should have cherished it when I had the chance

we'd even already graduated

so this really was the last time

in my head the decision was long debated

maybe we'd see eachother during the summertime

at least I hoped. because I chose to leave everything I knew

to seek a better future for myself too

Looking back on the past years

I am heartbroken in some ways

of course I shed many tears

the hurt of losing a best friend never fades

I've come out of it with some success

formed bonds stronger than I thought possible

even gave a salutatorian's addresss

on that last day it didn't seem tangible

but I knew I had changed and could never go back

I made that choice for my future, my career

I was not a kid anymore, that much was clear

I was finally ready for my highschool years
