Last Goodbye

Dear Dad,

After all this time,

I still regret never saying goodbye.

Empty rooms,

Broken smiles,

Final presents,

I was the one you never forgot.

And after all this time,

I still regret never saying goodbye.

Empty beds,

There is a place still set for you at the table.

When are you coming home?

Silence reigns,

Empty house,

Empty words,

I'm still waiting for you.

And after all this time,

I still regret never saying goodbye.

The music blares,

Silence in the melody,

Your voice is missing from the chorus.

Empty car,

Empty home,

Where are you now?

I found interest in the same things as you.

Are you proud of me yet?

Started school,

You were supposed to help me.

If time went back,

Then this time around,

I would say goodbye.

Because after all this time,

I still regret never saying goodbye.

First dates,

Homecoming,

Drivers ed,

Growing up,

You will never walk me down the aisle.

You were supposed to be here,

But you were nowhere to be found.

And after all this time,

I still regret never saying goodbye.

I cry,

I plead,

I beg,

Yet you never came.

Why did you have to go?

I'm not strong enough for this.

Hid behind a brave facade,

And after all this time,

I still regret never saying goodbye.

I suppose I'll see you when the curtains close,

The day ends,

My story stops,

But it's not the same.

I know your happy,

But I still need you.

Even now,

Years later,

I still regret

I still regret

Never saying that last goodbye.

Love, your daughter.
