Last Words

Trapped

in your own mind

tainted

by societies words

drowning

in a shell of your former self

blinded

by a blackness like tar

it engulfs you

all of you

all that you are

and now all that you've become

is a shuddered breath

a final sob

a clenched handful of pills

but you stop

and you look up

and your breath catches in your throat

amongst the darkness you see something that you thought was long gone...

Hope.

like a new born deer you stand up on wobbly legs

and take a long deep breath

you can breathe

because the former shell of yourself crumbles to dust

you can see

because the blackness that engulfed you now puddles at your feet

but most of all:

you can live.
