By Late Autumn

By late autumn, leaves die and blow away

The rain pours down and brings long days of gloom

The wind is cold and blows all night and day

So sad, so blue, it brings out days of doom

The nights grow longer, the days grow shorter

Cloud's cover what was once bright and cheerful

The sun dies down and the sky gets darker

Thunderstorms invade what was once peaceful

Streets flood, memories lost, lives are damaged

Confusion, distaught, hopelessness arise

Water settles, hands unite, homes are salvaged

A chance gives for a promise of blue skies

By late autumn leave die and blow away

The natural cycle brings new life today.
