On A Late Night

There was something about that night

That made me powerless.

It left me speechless.

Though my mind ran rapidly.

We walked in silence,

Both knowing we had so much to vent,

But little guts to reveal a word.

Suddenly we ceased our movement.

Looking at each other,

There was no need to say a word,

Or to uncover a feeling.

We both knew.

Still holding my reflection in their eye,

I finally asked,

"Is it just me?"

My pulse beginning to quicken.

For the longest seconds,

I heard every sound of that night

Except a voice.

One other than my own.

I managed once more,

"So it is just me?"

Maintaining the reflection in our eyes,

We stood in silence that night.

There was something about that night,

That made me powerless.

It left me speechless.

Though my mind ran rapidly,

Wondering why my reflection was no longer there.
