The Lead
My cue, my cue,
What is my cue?
I know it, I knew it,
When I was like you.
It's a full house,
My small part, as a mouse
Is symbolic
Of my mental state right now.
I was the lead,
Now I play the feed.
Insignificant,
The smallest part in the scene.
You've taken my role,
You've stolen my soul
Out from under my feet
With your heart full of coal.
Head in the clouds, I wait stage right,
Your face is aglow via Number 5 light.
You stand where I would
Had I been cast right.
But now isn't the time,
You give me "the sign".
I swallow my grief
And spit out my line.
Yes, singular, just one,
I speak, then I'm done.
I recieve no laughter,
Hope you had your fun.
We're done with the show,
Curtain call, we bow low.
I should be happy it's over
But a thought starts to grow,
The other mice in the scene
Were cued only by me,
I didn't steal hearts
But I was their lead.
Each part has it's place,
A problem to face,
We all work together,
This is a play, not a race.
I pick up the king's crown,
Letting go of my frown.
Instead of feeling demoted,
I help with tear-down.

Never forget:
When you feel like a pet,
You're part's never too small
And your home is on set.
