Leaf Watcher

Ever sat down at your kitchen table and attempted to put pencil on paper just so you could reach deep down inside yourself, down into the deepest part of your heart, the part you probably didn’t even know existed, so you could get your inky mixed up thoughts out?

Ever poured all of the hate that stabs you like one thousand little needles, into a song? Ever taken an art class just so you could express the feelings running around your body, the feelings that no one’s ears would swallow just because they decided not to?

Ever wanted to scream so loud, louder than the radio turned to the max, because you were filled to the brim with the feeling of being tied up, gagged, feet and hands bound, chained to a wall and left in a dark room, alone, a million words dancing on your tongue, begging to be sung in a rhythm to the beat of your heart to anyone who will listen?

This is expression. Sometimes it is as easy as picking up an eraser and saying “oh that is pink”. Sometimes it is as hard as breathing under water, impossible, you always drown.

Don’t drown in your own words; don’t let their cinder block weight push you further into the water. Scream them, let them fly free like a falling leaf on a nice autumn day, because you will always find someone who likes to watch leaves fall off of trees in autumn…

Let that one leaf watcher help you clear the inky mixed up thoughts inside, let them help you pull out the thousand needles before your skin heals over them and traps them there forever, never letting them out. Let their ears swallow your words that will remain running around trapped inside you if you don’t, let that wonderful leaf watcher turn down that radio to off…

Let yourself be untied, un-gagged, unbound and unchained, tear down the walls of that room and let the sunshine warm your face. Accept the rope that they will throw you, watch it part the waves, as a knife would part cake, watch it above you as it sinks lower and lower until it reaches you, take a hold of the life line that has been thrown and hold on, let the leaf watcher pull you safely on shore, let them know what dwells inside you, let them see your art, let them hear your songs and more leaf watchers will come…
