A Leap of Faith

Dear Fear,

Why do I always let you win

I feel your hot breath creeping up my shoulder and I shudder at your grip

I want say what I mean and do what I say

But you hold me back every time

I can see Confidence across the room and she waves but I can’t seem to even smile back

I’m so wrapped up in your story, I keep convincing myself this is what I want

but when I hear Chance whisper, ‘Let’s go,’

I want to take his hand and run

and I know you don’t care either way

Someone else will come along for you to destroy

and they’ll crumple like paper

I know

Maybe a little too well

I’ve done it a thousand times

Possibilities are ready for me but I keep coming back to you

even as Happiness reminds me you’re my only vice

But that changes now

This is the end of the line for me

I don’t want to be your puppet on a string
I want to meet Freedom

She’s only a phone call away, waiting for me

Say hi to Coward for me

I won’t be needing him anymore

I never want to be in the presence of your taunting glow again

Sincerely,

a better me
