To Learn a True Self

The night grew dark,

the lights were brighter.

The dresses skate the floor

like the wave of water.

Hands touching gently

to keep each other afloat.

Time was never a thought

for the happy folk at the ball.

A couple so sweet

dancing to their own tempo of their heart.

They were mysterious;

unknown of names and formalities.

All they knew was the look

in each others' eye,

the smile that stayed quiet,

the breath that ceased to exist

in the moment that they danced.

Time was never a thought

for the happy folk at the ball.

Within a clock-tick

the moment of beauty vanished

as the magic took away the

woman's glow.

Instead of running,

she stood proudly

exemplifying who she had

to be in her daily life;

not a maid or a slave

but a kind and humble gem

hidden in the shadows

like a pearl in a clam.

The beautiful moment within the dance

soon turned around

when she realized she did not

need the magic to be radiant.

She was beautiful.

She was strong.

And he loved her.
