Learning not to speak

I am being taught that using my voice is no longer allowed

I am supposed to stay quiet

even when other's throw insults at my face

I must be the one to remain calm because

that is what I am supposed to do

Never to say what I actually want to

Instead take it like it doesn't hurt

Take it like it doesn't feel like a bullet piercing my skin

take it like a child willingly sits in a rose bush

knowing that they will be picking out the thorns

of others words for days afterwards
