Learning to Sing

Her sorrows were many, her years too few, and yet through the sorrow her spirit shone through. Her gentle heart, her helping hand, were always ready on demand. Her smile brightened up the room, her presence playing its merry tune. But her life was not a fairy tale, leaving her heart broken and frail. Yet throughout her life she chose to sing, and through that pain her voice would ring. She chose to sing in her broken family, for all her dreams she wished were reality. And today when she is no longer here, every morning when I look in the mirror, I must ask myself do I choose to sing? No matter the troubles this life will bring? Her sorrows were many, her years too few, but through her life, a song still shines through. I will never forget that beautiful smile, that happiness no matter the trial, for I heard a melody that will forever ring, and that melody challenges me to sing. To sing in the poems I write, to sing each and every day and night. And thus by writing I hold onto the dreams of a precious child who taught me to sing.
