Learning to Swim
The dead float.
Like delicate leaves
blown down from the trees surrounding the water.
I try to escape but, my head keeps getting sucked under.
The dead float.
Like clueless insects
who were just trying to get a sip of water.
I paddle frantically; if I stop I'll sink to the bottom.
The dead float.
They rise to the top
without any worries weighing them down.
I keep splashing, scared that if I stop moving I might drown.
