Leave Me Behind
I prefer that I be left behind.
Left in the would have beens,
The could have beens,
The are nots.
Please, leave me behind.
The path I've taken isn't for the weak hearted,
No, this path leads to self-loathing, self-destruction,
A struggle to do your best when they treat you the worst.
Why did I chose this path? I followed you.
Yes, I followed and tried to keep up,
Though I kept getting left in the dark,
Shrouded in your lies, charades, forgotten.
Then you return.
You return, and I happily allow it.
I pretend nothing is wrong,
The lies come, the deception,
Broken plans.
Broken promises.
Broken hearted.
But I won't be left behind.
No, I will leave you,
Travel your own path,
and I'll travel mine.
But my one hope is,
Our paths will never again intertwine.
