Like Leaves Break from Branches

I loved you like crusted pens
Clots of ink in harried scratches
Like dust on Brother's Grimm
The copy you thought you wanted
Like pages red-edged with age
Its coffee stains seemed alluring
Like crochet bowling pins
Maybe I'll remember the arms (tomorrow)
Like a letter peeking from under calendars
Was there ever time
Like a shit-stained candy wrapper
Too late to find the garbage?
Like a question mark by a birthday
Will you let me celebrate
Do I even have the right Saturday
Like I knew you
Like I could've seen what I needed
