Leaving Home

Waking up soaked from tears

Cold from fear

Aching from pain

Yet, I am happy

Happy that the yelling has stopped

Happy that I can be the person I am

Happy that I can finally grow

Yes, it was hard saying goodbye

Yes, there was a lot of fighting

Yes, I made momma cry

This little bird fell in love

This little bird needed to grow up

This little bird has another place to call home

Leaving home wasn’t a bad thing

Leaving home wasn’t easy

Leaving home meant I was growing up

Leaving home does not mean I am saying bye

Leaving home means I will always come home
