Leaving So Soon?
Under the t-shirts and hoodies and pea coats
Behind the scowling face
Curled into the fetal position
To crack, I’m a tough case
I’m honestly not trying to be unfriendly
Making enemies is not the goal
This is just my personality
Apathy, that’s how I roll
Scrawling out notes in class
Doing homework sprawled on the floor
Still a whole ‘nother year of high school
As a life, what’s not to abhor?
Yeah, I guess I have friends
Well, people I usually can stand
But what do I really have in common with them?
Not even classes, drama, or band…
I really can’t wait until college
Every thought cycles to escaping this place
I want to leave my family and life here
Get out of the slow-lane, speed up the pace
The person I talk to most is myself
And even that’s a great bore
I’ve honestly tried to be tolerant
But the bitterness runs to my core
It’s not that I’m unwilling to like people
Though the commitment issues probably hurt some
It’s just that I haven’t met the right person
That, and peoples’ interests are dumb
So now I am chronically lonely
And college might be a fresh start
A time to earn a new nickname
And play a less hostile part
For now, I'm trapped in Plath's bell jar
A butterfly beating her wings
Wanting nothing more than to escape
And see what the future brings
