Left In a Home

Four walls staring down Blank white faces that never blink. A single bed with pale sheets faces a black TV that she can’t hear and that would not talk to her if she could. The silent pictures of people and pets purport emptiness in the room with talk show hosts that don’t share their secrets or stories and a window that gives a grim glimpse back to the world forgotten and lost. Sun rays neither warm nor chill the flesh Flowers send no scent to float through the air. The elderly, our most respected and wise, abandoned within themselves and condemned to die, with welcoming on their arrival and solitude on their departure.
