Legacy

Legacy. LEG acy.

I Refuse.

I Refuse.

To live without this idea.

It fuels me.

It fuels who I strive to be.

LEGACY

What will mine be?

Will it be the record for the of most bubbles made from single stick of gum?

Will it be the building that stands tall that I carved straight into the page from my mind?

Will my legacy be the amount of times I stare blankly at my teachers as they explain that I will never make it?

Is that what would be okay then?

Will my legacy be that the Latina Engineer filled every stereotype!

NO

It will be bridges that have been crafted from my creativity

NO

It will be the new invention of environmental safe steel

NO

My invention of the enviromentally conscious solar power

Will it be that I give up on my goals.

Is that what would make them happy? The girl in the sciences classes did not have enough of the smarts?

Just as we expected after all!

She's Latina shouldn't she be pregnant by now?

WIll THAT THEN BE MY LEGACY?

Half of my genes passed on to something small and round.

Maybe Just Maybe

My eyes, my earlobes, my lips

Does this legacy satisfy me.

Surely this could be enough.

As I close my eyes, my ears, my lips for the final time

But it wont be the last time

The eyes that I once gazed at the luminous moon with

Could be the same eyes my daughter will gaze at the blazing sun

The recessive earlobes that stick to my head could be in my grandson

And with those ears he will listen to the greatest rock album ever made

And the same lips could be on my son that will steal a kiss from his first crush.

Is that the legacy I seek so desparately for?

LEGACY

Does it even exist?

Do people even remember.

Do they even care.

Do I.
