Legacy

I am a legacy no not of my father's alma mater or my mother's sorority rather, i am the culmination the product and the result of my nation's history i am my country's daughter a bandaid over my nation's scars to conceal its faults, flaws, and failures because i am its legacy i have been fabricated and manufactured slaved over by the enslaved kidnapping children from their mothers selling people like barbie dolls stacking them on shelves by the hundreds on a cruise to our beloved nation controlling their every movement, their every thought so that the chain around their necks bonds with that of their brains to chain down their humanity so they wouldn't know the difference between being enslaved and being human. people don't know that the dream was once a nightmare that when our grandparents were immigrants trying to escape foreign oppresion that when they were praying for safe haven that when they fled to a place where there'd be liberty and justice for all that they'd find a new oppressor: Lady Liberty liberty to roam around their 8 by 8 prison cells caged in by the dozens like animals so their hearts would escape their chests and plaster against the walls so we'd know that what we have today was not gained so easily. so i write the untold story of the oppressed who came before me preach so i'm forever imprinted with its memory voice so my tongue is forever tatted with the cold, hard truth so it bleeds black ink like they bled red blood that once ran through their veins til' it didn't. until bullets pierced their brains and shrieks ricocheted off the walls like THUNDER so they'd scream a scream so terrifying that tears would rain and cries would roar and a tornado of fear would strike. now i'm not saying i don't love my country i just wish that more people would take the time to remember the struggle of those who preceded us because we are our country's children bandaids over our nation's scars to conceal its faults, flaws, and failures because we are its legacy.

This was inspired by my junior history class because it taught me about how our history as a nation has been overly glorified, when in reality, we have blood on our hands. The US was never the facade of equality and justice that it may seem like it is today, and I felt like more people should be aware of it.
