The Legend of the Lion

Medicine brush, painting life on

Canvas, racing heart

 Afraid of failure.

Hard beginning, but one stroke, it’s over.

The painting begins.

New life begins.

Breathing stops,

Heart thumps.

Eyes watch,

And color with image, reflecting, painting in my mind,

On canvas.

The turpentine, the wet newspaper the victory marks.

Stained hand and shirt,

Battle.

Victory.

The form breathes in deep,

HE comes alive.

So angry, so proud, but so vulnerable.

The Lion.
