Lens

Through the focus, through the lens, through the filters,

there I sit, trying to make amends with who I am,

forget the makeup, the shades of colors, covering and masking anew,

Letting go of the societal norms and standards that smother individual thought,

many have fought another to be the icon through the ages.

The world is too beautiful, I will make and I will give what I can.

I break through the focus, through the lens, through the filters,

I have my own path and I am ok with who I am.

The path tends to be rough, tends to be coarse, tends to change,

but I won't lose focus, I won't lose sight, there is so much more to life

than the pictures, social media, the hash tags and likes.

There is life beyond the phone, the computer.  I stand,

trying to make the world a more beautiful place through actions and words,

rather than tasteless, monetary and temporary means.

I won't lose focus, I won't lose sight, I will take away the filters,

to see the world for what is truly is and what I can personally give.

Look beyond the scope, beyond the lens, beyond the photograph.

Look into the subject and see their valiant fight for life,

the path tends to be rough, tends to be coarse, tends to change.

Don't lose focus, don't lose sight, change the filters,

make amends and see the beauty.

I ache and thirst for the beauty that surrounds me,

the quiet humming of birds chirping outside my

window. The rich smell of lilacs and daisies serenading from the garden,

Don't lose focus, don't lose sight, change the filters,

make amends and see the beauty.

lose yourself in it.
