Lessons for Girls

Girls are taught so many lessons.

Keep your head down, walk fast, don’t make too much noise.

Have your keys in your hand when walking to your car. That split second it of fumbling might cost you.

And never just sit in your car. Get in and drive.

Don’t scream rape, scream fire, People won’t come for rape.

Go for the eyes.

Use your elbows, your wrists are too weak.

NEVER go anywhere alone  at night.

You want to wear that new dress?

No it’s too short it might ‘suggest’ something.

WATCH YOUR DRINK!

Who knows what might happen if you leave it unattended for even a second.

All of these things drilled into our heads over and over until all we ever do is look over our shoulders.

Waiting.

Wearing heels is a choice between fashion and being able to run fast enough if you’re chased because when you get caught

...

Lessons upon lessons that we hear over and over because knowing and not knowing could be life or death.

And what do boys get taught?

We're forced to change our wardrobes so as to not distract them.

Forced to learn these rules so they can stay the same.

Boys will be Boys.

And girls will always have to change for them.
