Lessons on love

Poetry has taught me

That the word “love”

Is not two dimensional

It takes up space and time

Crowds thoughts

And clutters your mind

Poetry has taught me

That love is an art

Like the way

An endearing touch

Grazes your skin

Causing goosebumps to rise in symphony

Your heartbeat the drum

Or the way that love paints the world

Vibrant hues

Yellows, violets, and blues

Poetry has taught me

That sometimes the strongest of love

Is self love

Constant and true

No one can love the curve of your smile

Or that scar on your knee

More than you

Poetry has taught me

What love is not

Clenched fists and sharp words

Tear drops

And throat burns

“I’m doing this because I love you”

Is the biggest trap of all

And poetry has taught me

Not to be a fool and fall
