Let Freedom Reign

I'm just black in America.
I'm not Afro-American.
Just a passive American making believe I'm better than what we've been.

I SAID I’m suffocating on a society built on assimilation
Drowning in a sea of disobedient disobedience we must
Abide by what is law because the commonwealth doesn’t want to put up with any concept behind incoherence.
Maintain a poker face so that they won’t recognize that defining trait
But society rejected our standards my brethren exemplifying something close to indifference. By
God’s will instill in me just as others the confidence that comes with independence because by
God’s will I will stand my ground on political foreground and foreplay with insubordinance.
DID YOU HEAR ME?
I SAID
I’m stationarily stationed in a secular accumulated with entities so high on pride they choke on the messages they try so hard to abide by.
Blinded by the light so bright I’m hypnotized by propaganda messages so violent
As everything collides individuals are left handicapped by this contradictory style that has so many left on trial.
Finding comfort in conformity so in that they confide
Incarcerated due to the rules distinguished by dystopian mind writing the guide that led the other side joining hands and thus forth generating the genocide of my kind.
You know the same God that took the right to hold my head high and display my distinguished pride…
But still I rise.
DID YOU HEAR ME?
I SAID
with the hope that there’s still a few of us left.
Overwhelmed I’ll rebel.
Breaking the chain of a nation patiently awaiting the fall of the obdurate.
Breaking away from the abominable abomination
Statistic commission into a compliant state.
Breaking down because sometimes the pressure to excel exceeds the need to be defiant and I’m breaking down because sometimes despite it all I choose righteous impertinence.
You see,
I’m a rebel in my own home.
The way we are reflects our personalities and apparently I look too mean that’s why my mother thinks there’s something wrong with me.
I’m real awkward and weird, so you know all the cool kids… yea they low key wanna hang out with me.
Epically corrupt poet… the things that make up me are too obscene I guess the apple fell way too far from the tree but suddenly it’s…
Come on Tori.
Wipe the slate clean and conceal your individuality.
This is how all girls should be seen.
Put this makeup on so you can be pretty.
We like it longer and lighter.
Bleach the skin to make it brighter. Hair’s too short so when you weave it make it tighter.
Operations of domination
With all these changes eventually you’ll lose the fight in her so let’s not any further make the error to concur reality of what it is to what it should be because see…
I thought Martin had a dream.
The democracy was supposed to rise up and live out the true meaning expressed behind American creed.
Sick of prejudice and stereotypical heat.
Being seen not as equal but the subject of my people’s heed
But instead we fight for all the wrong reasons.
Just like the government wants
Distract us with bull so they can keep all their secrets.
Having babies to join the navy because there’s no other way to afford a college education.
But what about the ones smoking weed and breaking probation?
Reckless pictures on instagram for more likes for clout… confirmation.
Five hundred dollar shoes.
Breaking rules.
Bullying minorities to prove themselves cool.
Well, I got a test for you… it’s initiation.
The zanies with the lean.
Too far gone off my medication.
Friends teasing about things you have nothing to be ashamed of.
Narrow minds harbor ignorance and they can’t even see the limitation.
Black men screaming their conspiracy theories.
That’s all in our imagination.
Because I don’t agree they sentence me to a life of reprobation.
I think we forgot about the young bucks looking up to us soaked in admiration.
They grow to need significant identification.
We eluded the wrong information breeding another messed up generation.
DID YOU HEAR ME?
I SAID
I can’t breathe because I exist in an atmosphere polluted with greed.
But even in today’s day and age, the valley that should have been exalted is growing weeds.
The wealthy couldn’t care less about the less fortunate but unfortunate mouths to feed.
And what we’ve sacrificed to save the lives of unfortunate relatives overseas,
And I’m desperately trying to break the bond that won’t set me free.
The corrupted government that won’t help fund careers that I want to lead.
The youth that was destined to seek statistics because all they were taught was how to be.
The judgmental eyes that look at this young light skinned girl and think they have me down to a T.
Assimilate? ...  Never.
I SAID
I despise the eyes of society.

Let freedom reign.
I wanna be.
I wanna be.
I wanna be free.
Let freedom reign.
I wanna be.
I wanna be.
I wanna be free.
