Let Go ( A Sense of Place Mapped)

Let Go (A Sense of Place Mapped)

[verse 1]

I have a need to sing, farm, and help.

Try to walk right, but I’ve walked my hell.

I have a longing to feel belonged.

But even family can’t make me strong.

I contemplate if I’m good enough.

‘Cause most of my loved ones just gave up.

If we are the Land of the Free, then why is it

We just postpone our dreams?

How can we call ourselves the Home of the Brave

When we search our souls, then try to run away?

We get scared of being most ourselves,

And think it’s hard to put our fake lives on shelves.

Some inherit their parents’ dreams,

And do it to please them out of fear.

Society can turn good hearts into stone.

When our true goals are sound and clear.

Even in this age as I grow,

I only talk what I’ve lived and known.

The past hurts, but it’s far from me now.

So I’ve got to learn to live and let go.

[verse2]

I’m lying on my bed in confusion.

Because it feels like my true voice is useless.

I’ve given and taken abuses.

But outer forces can’t be excuses.

Without my problems, I’d still have to act.

Others in trouble is an everyday fact.

I contemplate using my gifts all the time.

But underestimate what I say in my rhymes.

My words have no desired evil.

It sheds light on the pain of my people.

After a while, the hurt makes you feeble.

So I show my struggles just prove we’re all equals.

Yet in an age where we should be peaking.

We can’t confront and control our demons.

We chose life so don’t feel embarrassed

To admit that we come with weakness

If anyone won’t accept me I’ll know.

Then I’ll see which friends will show.

And if they’re all too afraid to stand up,

Then I’ll walk by myself and let go.

 [verse3]

I may have started out a little bit sheltered.

But grew up with a taste for the mountains.

Roamed cities, swam beaches, touched souls.

And so far my journey has been astounding.

I think about the first beans I planted.

And the very first song I wrote.

Now I’m here in college with a dream.

And have a chance to vocalize my notes.

I’ve lived in the shadows too long.

And let others suffer for the weight my wrongs.

I can help teach the world to farm.

Set an example, then guide with my songs.

One day, I’ll have to teach the masses.

I witnessed that we have what it takes.

No matter what the critics have to say in books.

We have the power to make good from mistakes.

What matters is I’m here right now.

That what I learn and experience will flow.

I’ll graduate even wiser one day.

First I have to make the change to let go.
