Let Me
I feel the rage building inside
I feel like a monster at times, I only wish to hide.
I walk the path you all make me take
You claim it is for my safety and so that I may not break.
By doing your bidding, I only feel fake.
A scold here, a scold there,
It has gotten to the point where I can no longer bear.
I feel like grabbing my hair,
And pulling it out,
But you wouldn’t like that would you, no doubt.
I fantasize about breaking free,
One day where I can only be me.
Why can’t we agree
To let me just be.
You judge me if I don’t do it your way
Even though I wish to be carefree and gay.
I don’t want to be trapped between the lines,
I’m constantly fighting my two minds.
One who yearns to break free from all these fools,
While the other is not bothered by all these rules.
You’re scared of letting me become the average teen,
But you must understand I won’t always be pure and clean.
I’m torn from two sides,
I only wish to open the blinds,
To finally see who I truly am
And not this you created, just a great big sham.
These rules, these directions, you throw at my way,
Why follow them when life is just a great big play.
A play with so much emotion,
But the way I’m going, I’m just experiencing a portion.
Authority binds us to the ground so low,
And prevents us from arriving where we wish to go.
But I wish to fly so high,
That I will feel happiness when I die.
For I will do everything life can offer me
So I ask you once again,
Please let me be.
