Let me be there for you....
I always looked at you with wonder.
Wonder at how you could be so happy
around so many dreadful and dreary people.
Then when I saw the first bandage on your wrist,
it cut me like the razor you used to cut yourself.
I couldn't understand why you would do that to yourself.
You were always so happy around me.
Now I know it was a facade.
I never told you I saw it.
I just pretended like I never saw anything
and let the day wear on.
I didn't want to lose the happy you.
Then, as more days passed,
you began to have more bandages on your wrists.
You even kept some in your backpack.
Others went on and pretended like nothing happened.
I, on the other hand, couldn't let it go on and just do nothing.
I took your hand and said
"It's going to be ok and I'm hear for you."
You looked at me like I was crazy.
Then looked down at the arm I was holding
and started to cry.
If you're hurting,
let me hurt with you
or let me encourage you to go on
because I don't want to lose a friend
and the world doesn't need another life lost.
Let me be there for you,
because I don't want to be the one burying you,
when you decide that you've had enough with the people around.
Let me be your shoulder to cry on
and your wrist to cut.
But please, don't hurt yourself.
It's not worth the pain.
