Let Me Fly

I would have beautiful wings

If only they would let me fly

Everyone else says, "Go! Fly!"

Share your light with the world

But I must wait to be set free

I must wait to spread my wings

Why am I chained? Why am I caged?

They must think I'll never return

Or fly too close to the sun

But I am a Phoenix

I could set the clouds ablaze

If only they would let me fly

My song is a cry of longing

My wings lust for the sun's warmth

Without it my fire is slowly fading

The sun will set on me in my cage

But one day, it will rise on freedom

I will soar on God's breath

And the eagles will envy me
