Let me see the sun
Let me see the sun shine through
and let my last thoughts dry my mouth
and cause my skin to crawl.
Let the light warm the barrier,
the only one separating me
from having the threat of death visible
and glistening on the foreheads
of the excited
and red faced men
obssessed with defining justice publicly.
Place the noose around my neck
whisper your incoherent and impersonal apologies
as they cheer for the necklace of the damned.
Rip the world away from the grip of my toes,
and keep me suspended
as gravity begs for mercy
from the constrictor granting my wish.
Have the children squeal in delight
at the sound of gagging
from the anonymous entertainer
beneath the burlap,
and hear the silence when the barrier collapses,
fades to a blur,
fades to nothing
as the same red faced men
take the rope
to create swings
as the children are too consumed
chasing lightning bugs
mangling them,
entranced in the glow
that evades human possession.
