Let Me Tell You

I fill the air with long held secrets.

It's so quiet when I'm with you.

Not because I forget,

I simply bury.

I set down the shovel

And reach out for a hug.

I wonder if he hears it,

As he nears my heart.

I pray that he can't.

But i'll risk it again.

I know he can see it,

When he looks in my eyes.

I pacify him with words that we play,

"We're okay."

We're both filling the air with words unveiled.

And yet the only sound that night

Is the air our lungs let out.

We continue down our road of lies,

For I built to protect us both.
