Let Them In

To Whomever is Listening,

All I want now, all that I wish for, it isn’t for me.
All I want is for my friends to get into the colleges of their dreams.
For them to get that acceptance letter and breathe a sigh of relief.
So they can show that letter to the world
and be happy that they are someone.
They are wanted somewhere.
In this moment, they’re not a disappointment to their family.

So, all you gods in charge of fate.
All you divine spirits who control chance and the future,
smile on me by smiling on them.
Let them have everything they want.
Shine a ray of sunshine into their lives,
let them see a glimmer in the future
where everything they ever dreamed of
can come true.

If you have nothing to do today,
you imperfect deities,
remember that I prayed today.
A pious thought from an impious girl.
Maybe that counts for something.

All my love,
A Nonbeliever
