Let's Play God

Welcome one and all to the not too distant future. Here we have all kinds of wonders and what our company brings to you today is nothing short of amazing. You’ve heard of Build a Bear. Well now, you can build a baby. But you can’t just pick a skin and stuff it, the process isn’t that simple. But don’t worry, we make it fun, a game if you will, because life is a gamble. You’re dealt genes like cards from such a small deck, dictated by a roll of cosmic dice, but for one small check, we can stuff your sleeves full of aces. Our dice can be loaded with the weights of your choosing. And for the right amount, we promise, there’s no chance of you chance of losing. Our company has toiled, it’s been years of prep. But we worked it all out, step by step. 1. Find anyone who was different. Conquer and colonize. We had to standardize the world’s ideas of perfection so everyone would strive to meet our definition. 2. Map out the human genome so we could navigate it with ease, All the while practice research so we could manipulate it as we please and three, 3. Three took the longest, but we’ve finally done it. Created a populace that could barely tell you what DNA stands for. So ignorant in science and too proud to ask so when we spout words like “In vitro fertilization and Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis”, You will smile and sign right on the dotted line because you trust us. We are doctors, genetic counselor, gene therapists. Doesn’t that sound so soothing? And what we have taught you to forget is that we are all still human. Now I’m not saying we’re bad people, just that there’s money involved. So some of us won’t know when to stop. There’s no line we won’t cross if you can pay the entrance fee. But just keep in mind, once inside, nothings free. Sure, we can give your black baby blue eyes, red hair and a sprinkling of freckles on dimpled cheeks. Even though they show up almost nowhere in your genetic history. They’re all mutations anyway, so why stop there. Let’s have some fun with it! Throw in a little essence of starfish. Little Johnny break his arm? No worries, he’ll regenerate How about a dash of phosphorescence? Little Susie will never be afraid of the dark. And keep track of them easy with our back of the neck barcode- I mean birthmark. The Einstein’s and Newton’s, the Michelangelo’s of the age will never come to be because we will eradicate the potential for autism. The Van Gogh’s and Beethoven’s the Lincoln’s and Keat’s will never be reincarnated in our children as we rid them of all mental ‘disease’ Our children will be perfect, beautiful and smart. With our nucleic acid cocktails, they’ll all be works of art. And if they short circuit because of cut corners during construction, it’s okay. We can scrap them and start over, or ensure you have twins so you’ve got one to spare. You can be like royalty and have your perfect heir. So come on down, it’s sure to be fun. Just sign right down there and you’ve already won. It’s a gamble, but we’ve rigged it, so there are no real odds. It’s like the bible says; design the child and spare the rod. The future is here, so step right up and Let’s play God.
