A LETTER TO AMBITION

A LETTER TO AMBITION

I need space

for myself

by myself

with myself

That's what I tell myself anyway

but when you leave I spend the day

pining for you

yet not wanting you here

attempting to convince myself  that

I am better off where-

ever it is that you've decoded to be

as long as you're away from me

so I tell myself

again

I need space

for myself

by myself

with myself

Because if you were gone

maybe I could relax

without fear of doing everything

you always demanded that I

do this

win this

be perfect

and if I am not

then I don't deserve it

the time you spent with me

trying to help me achieve

my goals

and my dreams

is not worth it

if I am not perfect

so sometimes I tell myself

I need space

for myself

by myself

with myself

but I don' t tell you that

because I know without you

I cannot be

who

I've always wanted to be

an independent woman

who stands on her own two feet

knowing I can take care of me

for myself

by myself

with myself
