A letter to Culture

Dear Culture,

I don't think if ever want a job as a poet

You're writing with your soul, but then before you know it

It's not about the writing anymore, it's all about me

Making money

Overpriced coffee

Spending cash on an elegant coat

A choker that fits snug to my throat

The newest hippest 100% recycled tote

Anything to make me look cool

Something you can't learn in a school

But maybe I've been a fool

It doesn't matter if I look artist tortured

If my boots are plain or furred

Apple bottom jeans don't influence the word

I write

It's on the tip of my tongue, I have a reason to fight

Against culture

Society

Reality losing it's grip on me

This is the moment when I remember

Its not about how I look

Because I'm a poet, I don't work by the book

I don't follow the rules, I make them

I don't show the world my thoughts I fake them

I see chances and I take them

I can't follow culture anymore, I'm done

Stepping in number two while looking out for number one

Because really it's not about the money

Overpriced coffee

It's not even about me

It's about the difference I can make in society

Because if you stand up for something like me

It will always be a fight

Against culture

Sincerely, Deven Lawry
