Letter to a Father

Dear “dad”,

I never had a connection with you

I don’t know how it feels to be loved by a man

I go through life

Figuring guys out on my own

You never showed me what’s a real man

You left me where I was at

Didn't look back

You broke my heart first

Then came the rest

Since then

My love life was a mess

I tried to find love

I should’ve received from you

I tried to find someone to show me attention

That I needed from you

I find myself putting to much trust and expectation

That only you shall receive

It hurt to look around me

See all these little girls

Bonding with their fathers so happily

What I got from you was baggage

That carries with me

Until life is through

Never in life will I ever trust you

With your absence

I created an image

That I learned to clean up

I couldn’t let our broken bond

Anymore tear me up

Your a fool to think

I’ll anytime soon

Speak to you

You broke me first

Never once showed me my worth

I am who I am because of me

I gave myself a mindset

In which you played no part

It's best we keep our distance

But you’ll always be my father at heart
