A Letter to Love
Dear Love,
It’s been some time since I saw you last,
Since we said goodbye,
But my heart still yearns for you
Even if I no longer cry.
I always thought of you in terms of black and white,
But I found that you could change to gray
When you didn’t know if you loved me anymore
Or if you could even stay.
You taught me that life is full of you
And to find you everywhere,
To collect pieces of you like a bouquet
Or to try to wash you out of my hair.
You taught me that you can be fleeting
Or can span throughout time,
And sometimes that you exist
In people that I cannot even call mine.
You taught me about happiness,
But I also learned from you about heartbreak.
I have found that your presence is always there
In my laugh or in my ache.
But, oh how I would rather have
Within my heart again your home
Because at that time it felt like
The only thing I’d ever known.
So if by chance we meet again
Please say that you’ll agree
To not break my heart again like you once did,
I’m pleading.
Sincerely,
Me.
