A Letter to my ex

I get it.

You don't like me.

You don't like the way I sleep, eat, or live.

Fine.

You now what I don't like?

The way you never told me.

The way that I found out you were leaving

not from you or a friend even, but from our landlady.

The way you glare and refuse to respond

when I ask you now what you want.

The way I see my soul crumpling trying to make you stay.

So you know what, I'm not trying anymore.

You won't stay, I won't be happy.

But at least I can make leaving hard,

I can be courteous, and kind,

and funny and helpful

and everything that you want to forget I am.

Because ultimately, you need to communicate,

and I need to learn.

But without teaching, without experience,

there's no point in trying to learn from you.

Goodbye.
