Letter to my Family

Dear Family,

The light glows warmly o’er the dinner spread

Dad’s come in from the cold winter night

After caring for the calves in their warm straw bed

His little boy yells “Daddy!” in wild delight.

My sister pulls the juicy roast from its pot

And carefully spoons the gravy and veggies on top

Someone else put the gleaming forks in their spot

Sam pours out drinks, not spilling a drop.

Mom dances in with a smile on her lips

The baby races in on her heels all aglow

Dressed in her ruffles and fancy bow clips

I can help but wish she would stay young, never grow.

Finally, the moment has come and the dinner bell sounds

They gather around and bow to give thanks

For each other and the love that between them abounds.
