Letter to my freshman self-Things I learned from high school
-it’s not high school musical. You won’t get into Berkeley by singing and balling. But you can make it like high school musical if you want to. Start leaning to multi task and be able to juggle a few things. You’ll find new passions and more about yourself
-Stop looking at your grades. Your math teacher said they won’t post grades until after they pass back tests. If you already know you didn’t do as well as you wanted, just think of how you can change that for the next test.
-Don’t “text” cuz you’re alone. Jump into other peoples conversations. Or eavesdrop.
-Embrace being clueless, stop pretending like you know what’s going on in class. Ask the person next to you. Just a simple “hey, can you summarize the chapter to me? I didn’t understand it” makes a BIG difference
-You don’t need to find your “squad” I spent most of my days in the library or alone in open classrooms finishing up homework. You don’t have to kill yourself staying up late to finish homework. Take the time at school to do it. But if you see someone you wanna talk to, DO IT. I couldn’t talk to people until my senior year and I find out they’re amazing people.
-Stop stalking people on Instagram trying to figure out where their T-shirt is from. Just ask them. People love being asked about especially when they’re complementing you.
-Say “hi” to your seat partner. I made some of my friends asking for some chips they were eating.
-Be comfortable being uncomfortable. Don’t make a big show out of every little drama and let that ruin your week or month or year. Brush it off and start a new day.
-a compliment is an instant conversation starter
-don’t use your phone walking from class to class. Your friend doesn’t need to know how you’re #tired and #bored of going to class everyday. Look at what’s around you! That new poster! Now you’re not bored.
-Say hi to your teacher. It’s gets a lot more easier to talk to them later when you need something from them
-School isn’t your only life. It’s only 6 hours or your day. The other 18 hours, you can do whatever you want to do.
-Don’t think you’re committed to whatever character you form. Change yourself. Raise your hand in class even though in Freshman year you sat in the back all year.
