A Letter To My Future Daughter

To the fruit of my loins-

The apple of my eye-

And my greatest blessing,

I cannot promise you that the world will never knock you down

And beat you senseless-

Even when you get back on your feet.

But I can promise you that I will give you more than “unconditional love”.

I will bare my heart and soul to you.

Hand down my awkward moments and honest opinions.

I’ll give you my tattered and worn out books.

That way you too-

Will learn what I have learned through words of endearment.

I wish could tell you that boys will get easier to understand,

But I would never lie to you.

However, they might.

And when that time comes I will be by your side,

Reassuring you of your beauty and your worth.

I will remind you that your body is a temple.

Know that you are not something he can butter up and taste when he is bored.

I want you to wait for the boy that worships your naked mind and soul.

DO NOT pay any mind to the one that makes you question your worth for one second.

I will watch you blossom into the beautiful woman that I know you’ll be-

And I will watch you-as you look at yourself in that mirror- judging and tearing yourself down.

But rest assured, I will be there convincing you as best as I can-

that you consist of utter beauty and in my eyes you will forever be the most alluring being to have walked this earth

-The same way my mother told me.

With love,

Your devoted mother
