Letter to My Future Self

Dear Me,

Is it all okay?

Did everything turn out the way we wanted?

What am I doing for work?

How do I get my checks?

Pay my bills?

I wish you could tell me now that everything will turn out fine.

Are you still with Hannah?

God, I hope so.

Is dad getting any better?

Probably not.

Mom will be okay, I know she will.

Four years is a long time, what's changed?

Did your music take off?

I know it won't unless I come out of my shell.

How was college?

Did you like your room mates?

I wonder if you remember how nervous you were.

But hopeful.

Hopeful that when I finally graduate, and I open this letter, I will have had a great time, learned some, and gotten myself ready for the real world.

Because the real world scares me.

I've never been on my own.

I'll manage,

Somehow.

Shou ga nai, right?

I know I'll remember what that means.

Not simple indifference, but a statement of empowerment.

To keep moving on to the next success or failure,

Without fear.

See you then,

Your Past Self
