Letter to My Hero
You were so tiny I could have never imagine the strength you had.
I knew we shared the same blood because our tempers
are the same when you mad.
You would later show me what it means to break through obstacles,
Showing your true strength while in and out of the hospital.
Your mother and I knew we had a long battle ahead when you were just
3 months old.
But nothing could prepare me for that call that made me instantly cold.
If I'm being honest I cried and blamed God and wanted to take your place,
But I knew I had to pull it together protect you peace
because you were still walking with that big smile on your face.
Getting the news we may be facing cancer was extreamly devastating.
Daddy acted like I knew what you were going through,
but truth is I wasn't relating.
Everytime you scream before getting stuck by another needle,
I wanted so bad to unhook you from those machines and for us
to run away from those people.
My heart broke when seeing you laid in that bed
and I couldn't do a thing.
So here I am in the middle of the night checking myself once again,
because eveing in the bed you laid peacefully as if you sense no pain.
See our roles were switched around, I'm suppose to show you
What real strenghth looks like.
But instead I was growing stronger everyday I watch you
smile through the fight for your life.
The more you fought the more I believed we will come out on the other side.
you just broke through all barriers even the doctors were surprise.
It was like you were something they had never ever seen before.
I watched you change a girls life just 3 days out of surgery when you walked
for the first time on that recovery floor.
That's when it hit me our situation as family sucked
and it was far from perfect.
But I knew at that time you were in that hospital,
and on that floor for a purpose.
So I may be your father and this isn't the way it would normally go,
but I pray that this letter finds you Amari, my son, my miracle,
My Hero.
