A Letter for my Mentor

A smile to clutch when all has gone wrong

Words of inspiration so nice they rival the beauty of the sweetest of songs

An infinite source of wisdom

My own personal support system

My mentor, an old boss, a friend

A man who I have the utmost confidence will be there for me until the end

His belief in me makes me strive to be better

And his encouragement, at hard times, serves as a tether

He made me laugh when all I wanted to do was cry

Someone whose opinion I seek because I know he will not lie

I wasn’t aware I needed a mentor until we met

But for his time, open demeanor, and respect I am forever in his debt

He was thoroughly invested in my success

And despite his busy schedule he tried his best

Without him I wouldn’t be here

He pushed me to things despite my fear

He never let me have a negative and pessimistic attitude

For that I owe him my gratitude

He knows me as well as I know myself

Which made him the perfect candidate to always offer help

I’m extremely lucky I met John

And I fear the day in my life when he is gone
